I need a good bottled salsa recommendation. I have been on a lifelong quest for THE perfect "go to" salsa that I can keep on hand. I have tried a number of mediocre jarred salsas in my lifetime, but none of them are worth keeping around. It used to be Pace Picante, but it lacks that certain something, then Goya Pico de Gallo, but either they changed or I changed. I've tried the Desert Pepper brands and they are good, but not knock your socks off good, Newman's, Chi Chi's, Frontera Grill to name a few, I think I have tried them all. I recently tried an Archer Farms brand that has promise, but I continue to search. If you have found your true love, your soul mate in salsas will you please share the love? I am sure I am not alone in this search.

This is a good post. I have no answer, but I'll be checking back to see what other people write!
Well i think that there is still one really great one out there, but my wife has a good recipie for salsa that if you get fresh stuff for it tastes just great. I will get it when im home and send it to you!
I wish that I knew a good one too! I have recipe for fixing up salsa, and it it easier than making the who thing, but it still takes quite a lot of time and the idea with a jar is that you don't have to make it. I like the mango salsa at Costco, but that's only good if you have nacho's or something. If you need real salsa salsa, I'm at a loss too. I'll be watching to see if anybody has a clue on this one. :)
I think that I like Harry and David salsas. I kind of like the raspberry one. But I like the other ones too. But I just like all the salsas. If it's a tomato thing I like it.
Several people I know really like the Costco salsas. Also, Trader Joes offers a variety of different picos & salsas. I'm picky too, though. One time I'll think, "eureka!" The next minute I'm detecting weird aftertastes.
I love the Costco salsas too. They seem so much more fresh than the other salsas. (they are even sold from the refrigerated ailes, yum yum)
sorry I meant "aisle" of course.
can't vouch for this as i'm not a salsa afficionado but i find that you can't really go wrong with anything from Stonewall Kitchen... worth a stop on your search!
I like some of the refrigerated salsas at Costco and Publix, but nothing just makes me say.. this is the best. I like Chili's salsa, also. The best is homemade, but I dont have a concrete recipe as I add a little of this and that until it tastes great. I will try to take notes when I make a perfect batch next.
I totally love the Salsa Autentico, or however you spell it from TJ's. It's so good. But, I know you don't have one near you....
I actually bought a generic Target salsa that wasn't too bad the other day. My only real qualification is that it cannot have any sugar in it. I hate sweet salsa--unless it's a fruit salsa of some sort.
Herdez. I prefer Hot. Liz prefers Medium. The jar is usually gone at the first sitting because it is so good.
Well since few people relish eating as much as Mike, his recommendation is probably a good one. You can pick up a jar of Herdez at Whole Foods. We are going to try it out tonight. 14 years of friendship rides on this, though...
Loved this post, salsa is one of the few things that I actually can,but I would really like one I can just purchase, thanks!
Picked up a jar over the weekend. I should have picked up a case, as it lasted about 10 minutes.
PTC you are right on about this one. Herdez is what Goya Pico de Gallo used to be. Thanks so much for the 411. You've made a believer out of me.
Happy to help. Now tell Mo to stop posting disgusting pictures.
We haven't heard from Denise, so either she hasn't gone to Whole Foods yet, which is unfortunate, but understandable, or it wasn't a hit, in which case we will know that her culinary preferences just aren't up to snuff.
Throw me under the bus, eh Mike? I went to Whole Foods the day I posted the comment. Herdez was tasty, but truthfully, gave me heartburn (only the 3rd time ever in my life -- always because of pregnancy.) Nevertheless, I thought as bottled salsas go, it was quite good. Now, stop harassing me and go herd some cattle (btw -- still one of your best blogged stories ever.)
Last night, we went to Chilis for a quick bite.... I remember.... I love their salsa! I did try a brand I really liked this week... La Mexicana in the refrigerated section of Publix.
Hogie, where are you? Missing you on the blog!
Herdez is the best ever! You are able to read all of the ingredients on the label. http://www.mexgrocer.com/1224.html
Where's my prize? I like medals, not trophies.
Man, looks like I need to make a trip to whole foods to try this salsa...
Jenni, we miss you! come back to us, need new food inspiration!!!
hey where did comments go on today's post?!?
NO YOU DIDN'T JUST POST THIS was my first reaction. Because I already hit my pregnancy weight gain limit with 2 months to go.
I am so going to try these GF!
This is Katherine saying that it lookes sooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!
I'm excited to make those new cookie bars and I have never heard of a coconut shortening, I will have to see if I can find it.
So how long is this hiatus of yours Jenni? COME BACK TO US??!!
I too have been on this quest. Herdez, I like the mild, but the medium has just the perfect amount of kick to it.
Jenni!!! I need new reciepes. I finally have a place to shop (that actually sells everything) and a kitchen to cook in. I am lacking the Jenni recipes - HELP!!
gosh your blog just makes me hungry!
For jarred salsa - we go with On the Border salsa. It's pretty good.
I would have to say the La Mexicana Salsa.. you can get it from Publix in the refridgerated produce section. It is the best that I have tasted. It's so fresh!
